TomTom Installation
Instruction 1: Download and locate the files you need
All POI files that you will use on the TomTom come in pairs:
- there is a data file that contains all of the necessary details and locations of the meetings (ov2 file)
- there is an image file that contains the AA icon that you see on the tomtom's screen (bmp file)
These files are compressed together into a ZIP package for quick and easy download.
- Download the file from the appropriate link on our website remembering to keep track of where you have saved it !
- "UNZIP" this file prior to use. After unzipping you will be left with a folder containg the files needed.
This is now the "source" directory from which the POI file "pair" will be copied.
Instruction 2: Power on and connect to TomTom
- Open 'My Computer' and you should see a collection of drives and devices
- Find the TomTom drive, it's usually labeled 'TomTom' and it may have a TomTom icon. If the TomTom doesn't show up here, check your usb cable, try restarting TomTom or try plugging it into another USB socket on the PC. Alternatively you could remove the SD card and plug it directly into an SD card reader connected to your PC.
Instruction 3: Locate target on TomTom
- Next, identify the TomTom drive. It will probably have a drive letter assigned but this will vary depending on your computer. Navigate into the drive by double clicking on it. Inside will be a number of folders and files.
- Identify the correct map folder, this will depend on your TomTom version and what maps you have installed. It may look like : Great_Britain-Map', 'Western_Europe-Map', 'Great_Britain_Plus-map', 'United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland'. Navigate into the folder by double clicking on it.
This is now the "target" directory into which the POI file "pair" will be copied.
Instruction 4: Copy POI files across
We are now going copy the POI files from the source directory to the target directory.
- Open the window containing the POI (OV2 and or BMP files) that you want to install from step 1 above. Select the files by clicking on them and press CTRL C. Now navigate to the map folder that you located above and press CTRL V. This will copy the files to the map directory on the TomTom, alternatively you can drag and drop these files across.
- Return to the source directory from Step 1. Copy both files over to the target directory from step 3. You can use FileCopy and FilePaste, Drag and Drop, or CTRL C and CTRL V.
- You should now have the .bmp file and .ov2 file in the target directory along with the other contents already there.
Instruction 5: Activate the new POI files on TomTom
We are now going to enable the new POI that has just been copied across.
- Disconnect your GPS from your computer and turn on the TomTom. From the "drive" screen tap in the middle to get to the Main Menu
- Click Change preferences for the next screen
- Click Manage (or Maintain) POI for the next screen
- Now click on "Enable/disable POIs" and you will see a POI list. In this list should be the AA catagory just installed.
- Scroll down and select your new POI.
- Finally click Done to return to the "drive" screen.
Congratulations you have installed the new POI categories and they are ready to use.
