Garmin Installation

Instruction 1: Download and locate the files you need

All POI files that you will use on the Garmin come in pairs:

  • there is a data file that contains all of the necessary details and locations of the meetings (GPX file)
  • there is an image file that contains the AA icon that you see on the tomtom's screen (bmp file)

These files are compressed together into a ZIP package for quick and easy download.

  • Download the file from the appropriate link on our website remembering to keep track of where you have saved it !
  • "UNZIP" this file prior to use. After unzipping you will be left with a folder containg the files needed.

This is now the "source" directory from which the POI file "pair" will be copied.

Instruction 2: POI Loader

POI Loader is free software for your computer that lets you upload customized points of interest (POIs) to your compatible Garmin device. This can either be downloaded from the internet or comes on the Garmin product installation disc.

Instruction 3: Upload the POI files

Using POI Loader, follow the on-screen graphical wizard to upload the files saved in the "source" directory.

Instruction 5: Activate the new POI files on the Garmin unit

Enable the new POI that has just been copied to your Garmin unit - refer to the user manual for further instructions. On many models this can be done from the Garmin unit itself via "Where To", "My Locations", "Custom POIs" somewhere.

Congratulations you have installed the new POI categories and they are ready to use.
